FLIBS USSA Plans and Important Information

It time to think about FLIBS again! Can you believe it?
Much has been going on behind the scenes…the space agreement is signed; the deposit is paid; the budgets have been dissected, analyzed, reviewed, revised & finalized plus we already have signed contracts from the exhibiting members who are returning from last year.

A plan has emerged!

We are offering turn-key booths with no set-up or tear down, exhibitors’ shuttle service, in-village networking events on 3 evenings, plus important branding as part the USSA.
We have a very limited number of 10′x10′ booth spaces, we offer them at $11,000 which includes new exhibitor artwork. After the first year, renewals drop to $7,200.

We are re-configuring the USSA Village this year. Within the central island, there will be a USSA reception area, space shared with only one member at $7,200.

We need two sponsors for the networking receptions in the USSA Village, scheduled for Thurs, Fri and Sat evenings from 5-7. They would become your parties! Sponsorship is $3,000.

Our full marketing strategy for FLIBS features two other member-supported activities. Details will be announced shortly:

* An advocacy/educational component at the Captains Briefing & Reception on Friday, Oct 30.

* B2B networking at the General Members Meeting on Saturday, Oct 31, where a keynote speaker is planned.

The FLIBS 09 Contract is listed separtley.
– Fax (or email) the completed contract to 954-206-9180.
– We will invoice you and need immediate payment of 50%, with the balance due in June.

Do it Now! Immediate response confirms your plans and your space. Space will be awarded on a first come-first served basis.

Newport Spring Charter Show – Captains Briefing

If you’re planning a trip to the Northeast,
plan to be in Newport on Monday June 22!

Ø The USSA has planned a “Captains Update & Reception” on Monday afternoon, June 22, 2009. The speakers will be informative and knowledgeable. We “serve as a voice” – advocating for the superyacht industry in the United States. Our goal is to educate and inform.

Ø The audience is the captains and senior officers of all the large vessels that are in the region, not just those in the charter show.

Ø We are also inviting regional superyacht businesses and leaders. We want to strengthen our regional alliances and engage new members.

Ø The Captains Update will be in the main tent at the Newport Spring Charter Show in The Newport Shipyard at 4:00 on Monday, with a mini-trade show opportunity during the event and throughout the charter show (June 23-26).

Ø The networking reception follows immediately from about 5-7:00. We are planning a Specialty Drink Station and Cash Raffle Prizes!

Ø The Newport Spring Charter Show hosts their crew party, 5:30-7:00, in the same tent, on the same evening. More energy, more networking, more exposure!

Support the USSA event!

Use June 22 as a planning date, a focal point, a home base during your trip!

ü Most of the charter show activities are in the evening, the Welcome Dinner on Tuesday, yacht-hops on Wednesday and Thursday – you know the drill.

ü During the day, visit customers, shipyards, vessels, distributers!

ü Work the region, returning in the evenings for the networking and the Newport nightlife.

ü Your shared table space ($450) in the main tent at the charter show gives you exposure, even when you’re not there.

Participating USSA members will be welcome on the charter show vessels and at the events.

Member support is critical.

ü The 2009 Newport Offerings and Sponsorships are attached.

ü Host, Specialty Drink and Raffle Sponsorships include the mini-trade show, shared table space. Consider all the options!

ü Fax (or email) the completed Member Agreement (attached) to 954-206-9180. Do it now!

ü Deadline: June 1.

Marketing, Networking and Advocacy!

Now that’s what I’m talking about!

Strong Leadership, Unwavering Commitment. The Key to Important Longshore Reforms

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Congressman Ron Klien Support efforts in the reform.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Congressman Ron Klien Support efforts in the reform.

In 1927 the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) was created as a gap-filling measure between scare workers compensation and traditional maritime law. If a worker was injured on the dock, while loading and unloading cargo, there was now protective legislation in place that would cover his/her injuries. Clearly the recreational boating industry was not what it is today and there was no specification of the type of work being performed nor the type of vessel.

Fifty years later there were amendments made to the LHWCA that addressed the protection of land-based workers, responding to longshoremen (and their unions respectively) who were excluded from federal coverage when they left a ship. These amendments expanded the universe of those who were required to have LHWCA coverage, including the recreational marine industry, who primarily worked in marinas, boatyards, recreational docks and even manufacturing facilities.

Captains Briefing & Reception St. Maarten January 2009

The annual Captains Briefing & Reception, held in St. Maarten in January, gathered nearly 100 industry captains (who were berthed there) to discuss such issues as visas & immigration, foreign-flagged vessel entry into U.S. waters, doing business with U.S. refit yards and piracy. A delegation of over 20 member companies traveled for a mini-trade show and two days of networking with the attending senior officers and the many vessels in port.
