Teakdecking Systems Launches ECO-PRO Mold & Mildew Stain Remover Concentrate

ECO-PRO's 1-quart concentrate produces over 8 gallons of economical ready-to-use solution for large deck areas.

Sarasota, FL – Teakdecking Systems (TDS) is introducing a proprietary, plant-based, biodegradable stain remover, **ECO-PRO**, specifically formulated to tackle the most challenging problem on superyachts, boats and all deck finishes — mold and mildew stains. Known for designing, manufacturing, repairing, and installing premium marine decking systems since 1983, TDS developed ECO-PRO as part of its broader professional deck care product line. Developing a complementary stain removal was "natural" for the firm and consistent with its efficient, systematic philosophy in harvesting, assembling and installing teak and other composite decks. Since the proprietary formula is a plant-based concentrate solution, when mixed with water, it is highly efficient in removing stains and is safe for aquatic environments like oceans, lakes, rivers and all facets of the marine environment.

"Our focus has always been complete marine decking systems, from design and manufacturing to installation, repair, and long-term care," said Richard Strauss, CEO of Teakdecking Systems. "ECO-PRO extends that commitment by giving crews and owners an environmentally responsible solution for one of the most persistent maintenance challenges on board — mold and mildew staining."

Teakdecking Systems' products are suitable for many deck surfaces, including teak, composites, EVA foam, cork, non-skid fiberglass, glass, textiles, and drains. In addition to cleaning and protecting surfaces, they help safeguard the marine environment — an essential part of the company's mission.

ECO-PRO was developed in-house by Bryan Dodd, Vice President of Products Division at Teakdecking Systems, whose technical background includes a degree in physiology and extensive experience in chemical adhesive manufacturing. With a deep understanding of formulation, surface performance, and real-world marine deck care, Dodd developed a proprietary, plant-based detergent formula to help remove visible mold and mildew staining from superyacht decks and other marine surfaces.

In addition to problematic food stains or animal soils, including grease, oil, fish blood and guts, mold and mildew create a particular byproduct that often must be sanded out — especially in the white or gray caulk seams between teak planks. ECO-PRO solves that problem and works best when initially applied onto a newly installed or sanded deck, to act not just as a remover for any existing dirt but also to prepare the deck to handle future stain removal, for more efficient cleaning later. For heavy stains, the concentrate is mixed at a ratio of six ounces to one gallon of water and spread or brushed onto the deck; after several minutes, keeping the area moist, the deck can be scrubbed again with a multidirectional brush, then hosed off with water.

TDS recommends using ECO-PRO in conjunction with two of its cleaning products: ECO-100, a powdered cleaner made for day-to-day, damage-free use on wet teak decks, and ECO-300, a pre-mixed liquid applied to a sponge or cloth and used on teak or composites to clean and brighten, providing a rich, spot-free surface. The ECO-PRO Mold & Mildew Stain Remover can be used at any point in between your normal deck maintenance cleaning protocol, creating a total cleaning, stain removing and protective system. The TDS ECO product range is environmentally friendly, including ECO-PRO, which does not contain caustic acids, phosphates, bleach, biocides, or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).

Using ECO-PRO as the initial application, as soon as mold and mildew stains appear, facilitates cleaning, saving time for superyacht crews who are busy with many other maintenance responsibilities. ECO-PRO is also useful to marina operators who want to present a clean, eco-friendly environment for their customers, as well as discerning boat and yacht owners who want to enjoy their vessels rather than engage in rigorous cleaning regimens. Adding ECO-PRO to the regimen for winterizing in the fall or opening a boat in the spring is a solution for reducing the dirt, odor and mold and mildew stains that can occur during off-season storage, thus adding return on investment.

ECO-PRO is designed to be cost-effective for large deck areas, with one quart of concentrate producing up to eight gallons of ready-to-use solution, mixed as directed. One gallon generally provides up to 1,000 square feet of visible mold and mildew stain removal, depending on the surface condition and application method.

ECO-PRO, ECO-100, and ECO-300 are available through authorized Teakdecking Systems distributors, including Merritt Supply, National Marine Suppliers, and Seafarer Marine.
